El verano es sinónimo de Escuela Bíblica de Vacaciones (EBV). Pero cuando se trata de una EBV al estilo pandemia, tenemos que unir la creatividad a la seguridad.

Fíjese en cómo algunas iglesias metodistas unidas se están adaptando.

Teniendo en cuenta el distanciamiento social y los protocolos de seguridad, los líderes de la Iglesia Metodista Unida Mount Pleasant crearon materiales de EBV que se entregan a los automóviles que pasan a recogerlos. Cada lunes por cuatro semanas, las familias recogen paquetes con historias, arte y manualidades para la EBV, además de una comida caliente que se entrega a quienes pasan en sus automóviles para recogerlas.

Al llegar a casa, los participantes en la EBV tienen todos los materiales que necesitan para deleitarse en una lección de EBV, junto con videos que ven en la página web de la iglesia.

La IMU Mount Pleasant creó para el año 2020 el tema “escuchando a Dios”, lo cual se elabora a través de historias acerca de Noé, Jonás, Zaqueo y Pedro. Según Martha Hallquist, directora del ministerio con niños de Mount Pleasant, el conjunto de materiales para EBV incluye una página con un pasaje bíblico, una página para un devocional familiar, una página con un juego, el desafío para esa semana, una canción para la semana, y una página extra para un número de familia, todo empaquetado en un gran sobre. Cada niño también recibe una bolsa de manualidades.

Cerca de 120 familias han recibido los materiales de EBV y las comidas.

“Aprecio que Martha, directora del ministerio con niños, haya trabajado duro para encontrar una manera de que podamos tener la experiencia de entregar historias bíblicas que cambian las vidas en el contexto de Covid”, dice Cheryl Lowe. Cheryl y su esposo, el Rev. Vance Lowe, pastor jubilado, realizaron las actividades de EBV con sus cuatro nietos.

Personal del Children's Ministry Initiative (CMI) creó el currículo de EBV para servir a las Iglesias coreanas metodistas unidas de los Estados Unidos. El tema para 2020 fue “El ferrocarril rocoso: El poder de Jesús nos saca adelante”. Las iglesias y familias recibieron las historias, canciones, manualidades e ideas para merienda. Las iglesias pueden adaptar su experiencia de EBV y ordenar paquetes para entregarlos a sus miembros o participantes a través del portal web de EBV, en el cual videos interactivos enseñan cómo preparar bocadillos temáticos, dirigir canciones con la letra en la pantalla y la confección de manualidades.

“Las iglesias que usan nuestros recursos son iglesias con solo cinco pequeños o iglesias grandes con unos 250 niños”, dice la Rev. Tarah Lee de la Iglesia Metodista Unida Coreana del gran Washington. “Tenemos 78 iglesias participando. Estas iglesias están en todo el país, desde Hawaii a Seattle, Denver, Oklahoma, Alabama y Michigan. También tenemos varias congregaciones coreanas de varias denominaciones en los Estados Unidos, incluyendo iglesias bautistas coreanas, iglesias presbiterianas coreanas, iglesias metodistas unidas coreanas, iglesias comunitarias coreanas y hasta una iglesia en Corea del Sur.”

CMI, KIMC del gran Washington y la Iglesia Metodista Unida Coreana de Detroit también patrocinaron a iglesias y familias que no podían pagar por los paquetes de EBV.

“Ha sido una tremenda bendición trabajar juntos”, comenta Lee, “pero lo más maravilloso ha sido ayudar a que las iglesias lleven la Palabra de Dios en este tiempo  de incertidumbre y aislamiento”.
